As the gunfire echoed throughout the room, mingling with the screams of those still trapped, Remy took the couple of seconds where he wasn’t dodging tentacles to spot where the others were.
Two brightly haired individuals, one whom Remy believed was with the Brotherhood were off to one side, apparently dealing with one of the assailants, while Raven was off taking down those she could with a bodyguard. He was just in time to see the shadows run through one of the assailants, and the horror on the faces of those closest. When had he become so desensitized to this sort of thing? It wasn’t as though he went about blowing people up on a daily basis.
Remy managed to take half a step towards the pair before the boy seemed to pull himself together enough to launch an attack on the controller of the shadows. Taking this opportunity, Remy changed his course, running towards Assailant #5, bo-staff in hand having its kinetic energy accelerated until he was as close as he could get. The blast had opened up a brief window for Remy to get close enough to cause some damage. Sliding under a tentacle as it wildly lashed out at him, Remy drove the end of his staff into the floor. The release of the energy, while nowhere near as strong as it could be, was enough to send several cracks through the floor, and towards one of the support pillars. Remy heard the cracks travelling up the pillar, pieces of the concrete splintering off. This had also forced Assailant #5 down, sprawled on their back and in perfect position to be caught under a large chunk of concrete. Whether they were alive or not was hard to tell, though Remy guessed from the sudden lack of movement, and the sound of bones snapping, that dead was most likely the case.
The immediate problem solved, Remy’s attention turned to the damage done to the building. Cracks had spread up the length of the pillar, and had spiderwebbed onto the ceiling. It wasn’t stable by any means.
@Elizabeth Braddock || Assailant #5 has been crushed, and the structural integrity of the Gym has been compromised...tread carefully.
Betsy was indeed reading what Quentin was when she allowed her mind to travel through the memories of the assailant. She felt 'bare' while she was doing this, not because she was piercing through private thoughts of an individual, but more because of the situation she had left herself in before venturing into the assailant's mind. She needed to finish this fast and-
The feeling of death took over, and Betsy felt the assailant's consciousness literally slip out of existence. Contact with his mind was broke almost forcefully, her mind went back to full reality and she was staring shockingly at the impaled figure of the assailant. A tendril came flying at her just seconds after, and she instinctively dove downwards, fortunate enough to receive only a light touch of what could have been a tendril impaling her just like the adversary that had just fallen before them.
With body laid flat, clearly an attempt to avoid anymore lashing tendrils, her eyes made quick movements to check on Quentin. He was thankfully alive. Regardless of where the boy's loyalties lay these days, she didn't want to see anyone that wasn't the assailants, dead. She felt the psychic energy emit out of him and it was enough to distract the puppet master behind the darkness. Someone needed to take a shot, and the trench-coated mutant managed to release energy of some sort that sent the gymnasium crumbling. It killed the assailant, but Betsy wasn't too sure how long the building was going to last with the pillars at a crumble.
She rose to her feet, her mind trying to ignore the fact that the infamous blue-skinned woman had was now in the scene of things, most likely the shapeshifter from before. The last of these terrorists was still sending some invisible force up against people, and there was no time to ponder. She locked her mind onto them and quickly began to disorient his or her senses with illusions; up became down, left became right, and forwards became backward. Enough to hopefully stop him or her from causing any more harm. She turned to Mystique, one of the few with a long ranged weapon, unfortunately.
"I have him distracted, you can get your shot."
#2 is being distracted by Betsy
The distractions caused by the telepaths was good. The explosion from Gambit was even better, especially as it removed an assailant from play. Perhaps she’d send someone up to fix the leak in his bathroom for a job well done here today. She was likely going to have quite the stack of paperwork back at the office after this affair - especially if the damn building collapsed - but she’d deal with that later.
For now, there was a purple-haired human-loving mutant calling out for her to take the shot. Azure lips spread out into a wide smile, showing off a row of pearly whites within. Her yellow and red eyes flashed with what could only be delight. The telepath’s last words were drowned out by the sound of Raven’s gun spitting a few bullets out in the final assailant’s direction. Thanks to the mental distraction, they hit home, burying into the attacker’s head and neck.
Glancing towards her bodyguard, she frowned slightly. He’d be looking for her in the crowd soon. A few quick steps found her at the Cajun’s side, and she thrust the weapon out towards him. “Get yourself out of here. Quire, too, if you feel the need,” she murmured, making sure to keep her voice low. She didn’t care overly much if Remy helped either of the telepaths. One was a member of Xavier’s ilk; the other had wandered in of his own volition after the fighting had begun. “I’ve got to get back to work… I’ll stop by the apartments later this evening to check on everyone.”
Last assailant is dead!
Congratulations, heroes! You have successfully cleared this stage. This was the final thread, and thus the event has concluded. If you would like to remain behind to guard the position, you may just find yourself curious to investigate the subdued assailants...
Careful inspection would reveal that Assailants 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 are wearing concealed technology which has been providing them with their "powers;" Assailant 5 actually possesses the superhuman ability to manipulate shadows.
