Bucky and Steve had been aware of the growing protest movement, and when the event had actually started, they’d decided to go together… just in case some extra hands were needed. They were far from a police force, or even on everyone’s good books, but James wasn’t afraid to choke a few people out for order, and people still respected Steve. James hadn’t ever actually signed anything, but by proxy, he was kind of a part of the SVRA, and while he agreed that he didn’t think they needed to register, he wasn’t exactly allowed to be too vocal about it. His presence at the protest was strictly to keep an eye on things..

However, as all good protests go, someone pushed someone else, and their friends pushed back, and before James knew it, he was separated from Steve and trying to push against a crowd that was drawing him further into the fight.

For the most part, Bucky managed to stay out of it until a counter-protester made himself known by pointing a weapon directly at James’ face. Bucky was absolutely the wrong person to do that to, however. His immediate response was to grab the barrel with his metal hand and point it skyward while driving it down and into the nose of the man initially wielding it. The man dropped the gun as the pain knocked him right out and James looked at the limp weapon in his hand for a second. “What the fuck?!” He exclaimed, mostly to himself, as someone tried to take the weapon off him. “I don’t think so.” He snapped at them, pulling it back to himself and using his metal arm to crush it until it was useless.

He may have been able to use the gun to help fight back, but he still didn’t want to fight. He’d seen the videos from the STEM fair.

James’ first need was to get to the edge of the fighting and find higher ground, and then look for his blonde idiot who was probably throwing punches at counter-protesters and getting a dress down himself. Steve could handle himself, of course, but it always felt better when they were fighting together. “There goes my good day.” He snapped to himself.

Logan was no activist, but there was a crew from Xavier's attending the protests and grudgingly the ol' Canucklehead decided to drag himself along with them in case shit went south.

In case.

It always went south, in Logan's experience. You cram that many angry people together in one place it'd be a miracle for nobody to lose any teeth. Logan showed up in a baseball cap and aviators and as the streets began to fill he knew he smelled trouble. The whole scene set his teeth on edge. The noise. The feeling of being crammed like sardines in a tin of concrete and asphalt. Tension in the air he could cut with his claws.

There were too many people with too many signs chanting too many slogans and shouting too many epithets at each other and the whole affair made him tense. Not claustrophobia. Not a tightness in his chest. Just something hot at the back of his neck, an itch in his knuckles, a piece of him that kinda hoped somebody would throw down.

He didn't have to hope. His gut was right on the money.

Someone lit the match and ignited the gasoline that hung in the air and the protestors and counter-protestors were alight with violence. The stuffy crowd quickly became chaotic, a roiling mass of swinging fists and screaming, ever-shifting. Logan tried to stick with his people, grabbing protestors and counter-protestors and shoving them out of the way. But the crowd moved in every direction, masses of bodies splitting the chain of Xavier's disciples. He lost them. There were too many scents in too close proximity. He couldn't follow their trails and he thought he smelled the first wafted notes of tear gas.

Somebody grabbed him by the back of his shirt and he wheeled around with a right hand cocked and ready to fire.

"You buncha fuckin' morons," Logan grumbled as he socked a balaclava-clad counter-protestor in the jaw. The man's knees buckled and he dropped and Logan knew he'd be trampled in the chaos so, just as grudgingly as he tagged along to this mess, he grabbed a handful of the asshole's shirt and started dragging him out of the fray.

Logan had his sights set on the sidewalk; not safety, but out of the core of the burgeoning riot enough that he'd be able to breathe and catch his bearings. He threw the unconscious man up against a mailbox and then he climbed on top of a parked car and he looked out over the sea of people and he said: "Ah, hell."

His eyes fixed on a flash of metal and it wasn't the organic steel skin of the Russkie he knew was somewhere in the crowd. A gun. A metal hand. Then no more gun. Great, some pieces of shit were packin' heat. Shoulda figured.

The crowd was pressing in all directions. A couple college kids were engaged in a desperate scramble to escape the violence. Logan reached down from his place atop the car, pulling them out of the fray one and then the other, pointing them behind him to an alley that funneled out to freedom. Then, seeing a man sparking a lighter to a Molotov cocktail, Logan leaped down from the car and kicked him in the head.

A short distance away in the sea of people he could've sworn he saw the Russkie's head above the crowd.

"Hey, Pete! Get over here willya!?"

Democracy was something that Piotr felt very strong in. He was a patriotic man in nature. He had strong beliefs in his homeland though having spent so much time among the states he had found himself slowly falling in love with the country's political system. One thing that he always was sure to take full advantage of was the freedom of speech. He had been a part of many protests throughout the years but this one seemed to strike the closest to home.

So when he had been approached by a group of his students about wanting to partake in the protest he was eager to help. Partially in wanting to show the students how important it was to stand up for what you believe in. Also knowing full well how such things could take a turn and wanting to be as close as possible to keep the students safe. It would not be the first time that such a protest would come to a violent head.

Towering over his students, who attempted to keep in some slight resemblance of order, Piotr kept a worried eye on the crowd. He had worn a simple flannel and jeans, a hand made sign carried in both hands against his shoulder reading simply: NO DEED FOR GOOD DEEDS. He thought it to be clever but it had prompted not but eye rolls from his class. Still. He carried it proud as they moved through the ranks.

One could have missed the popping of the tension if they had taken a moment to blink. What was at one minute loud heated arguments erupted into a sea of yells and fists meeting flesh. Most of the students seemed to shy in fear from the conflict. As most children would, though to Piotrs dismay the riot spread quick. Two of the older students, opinionated young boys, seemed to see this as a chance to get involved. Looking back to his comrades and the other students who just seemed to be getting clear Piotr took off in pursuit of the two wayward students. As his strides grew in length he cut his way through the crowd like a plow for a field he was preparing to sow. It was easy work for him, and within a moment he had caught the boys. Grabbing them by the collar of their shirts he stopped them in their tracks and pulled them backwards.

"'Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon'." The Russian boomed at the boys as he looked back towards the others. "I expected more young comrades. There are others who we need to protect." He clicked his tongue as he started to turn back towards Logan. The Canadian's call caught his attention quickly.

Almost on cue someone fired off an automatic weapon into the air. Causing the chaos of the crowd to grow worse as some ran for cover and others seemed to throw themselves more into the brawl. A familiar 'clink, clink, clink' sounded as metal bands crossed across Piotr's body, his stature growing as they expanded over him. A random protester caught hold of one of the boys, wrapping hands around his arms and attempted to pull him into the crowd.

A sharp smack to the man's head, a ginger one by the Russians standards, the man fell unconscious to the ground. Things were getting worse. Tucking a student under each arm Piotr plowed to through the remainder of the crowd to make his way to his ally. The crowd seemed all to willing to move out of the mans way though the sharp crack of a baseball bat shattering against his shoulder blades was prominent.

"Logan, things have taken a turn for the worst." He placed down the two boys against the car Logan had been standing on, turning his back to them to face the crowd. Searching for where the others had gone.

The protest was something Erik had gone to, not just out of curiosity to see the turnout, but because he realized there was important work to be done there. There was a statement he needed to make. A statement against the registration of any kind of person. He'd been against this stupid act from the beginning, this was just the first step before it spread out to people with mutant powers, not just those who wanted to do good with their lives. Then it would be confinement for those with powers, to keep them from turning them against humans. He'd lived through it all once before, and he was never going to live through it again.

A counter-protest had popped up against the original protest, whether it was full of idiots who actually believed in registration or just people who wanted to riot, Erik had no clue. However, he was sure that it would make his plans a lot more smoother than he'd anticipated. There were always accidents in riots, and who could fully blame him if one more just happened to occur when he was around.

The scent of gasoline mixed in with the smell of blood and sweat as Erik pushed his way through the crowd. He wasn't gentle as he pushed people out of his way, but every returning blow glanced off of him, unable to leave a mark through the magnified force field he had wrapped protectively around him. Weapons were being pulled out now, pointed at people, other things were being lit on fire. Everything was a mess of chaos. Interesting.

Erik pushed his way towards the sidewalk, going up to 8 Spruce street. Glancing up, Erik looked at the large building of twisting metal and windows. The world did not plan for Erik when it was created. They did not calculate in his ability to use that metal against them, and they made everything from their weapons to their buildings from a material that he had complete command of. It was a small blessing, in these times of turmoil, to know that he would always complete control, something that they would never know.

Examining the crowd around him, Erik was surprised to see familiar faces popping up around the crowd. Was that the winter soldier over there, gun in hand? And there, dragging an unconscious body, being followed by a giant man. That was the famous Wolverine and Colossus. It must be Christmas, and Santa Claus had to be real because out of all the X-Men he could have run across here, he was fortunate enough to see the ones with metal so deeply ingrained in them that he could control them.

A smile twitched over his lips as he examined them. They were distractions right now, he had other work to do. More important work, as long as they didn't notice him, just yet, there would be no problems. Besides, what could they do against him?

Never mind finding his friends, just getting to the edge of the crowd was going to be a miracle in itself. With one gun dispatched, James looked around for the nearest high structure he could climb to survey the fighting and noticed a lamp post. If he could just- someone’s fist bounced off his chest from the right and he turned to look at them, high-blocking the next shot that was aimed for his face and pushing them back into another man who seemed to be on his side. “I’d be looking for fights with people a little more your level, pal.” He warned in a raised voice over whatever profanities they were aiming in his direction. It didn’t have any effect, and when he let the man go, both of them squared off and attempted to come at him as a combined assault. James knocked them out and picked them up by their jackets, making a pile of unconscious bodies where he’d left the first one.

One person would get trampled, a pile would be avoided. Or tripped over.

Those around him otherwise seemed to be handling themselves, and James looked for the light pole again, pushing and shoving his way through the packed bodies, aiding those who were less capable of handling themselves. It was hard to pick out who was protestor and who was anti-protestor in the mess. James had to settle on just helping those that looked to be losing and hoped that he wasn’t helping the assholes until he got to his destination.

Heaving himself up just enough to see over the bodies, he knew there was no way he’d spot his friends now, and indeed, he also wouldn’t have been able to see them ever again if he’d climbed a few inches higher. A bolt of blue energy cut through the top of the light pole like a hot knife and James slid a few inches down, trying to find where the weapon had been fired from. That was a safety issue that needed to be dealt with now.

"This is a goddamn clusterfuck," Logan snarled as Piotr set the pair of students against the car. He forcefully established a buffer zone around their position with push-kicks and jabs, striking out at any of the violent protestors who dared approach and shoving aside the nonviolent ones. It was still a chaotic crush of too many bodies and the longer they remained the worse it was gonna get.

A bright blue flash of energy and the sudden, burning ozone smell over the stink of the riot crowd caught Logan's attention and he followed the blast as it burned through the top of a light pole, just over a man's head. He squinted. That was the same guy who'd been taking out the gunman moments earlier. Guy looked awful familiar but this wasn't the time to play name that face.

"Pete, we gotta take care 'a these weapons before this gets bloody," Logan said, giving the Russkie a light clanging backhand to his metallic arm.

Priority one, then, became disarming the sons of bitches who decided to fire blindly in a crowd. Logan forcefully shoved his way through the masses, following his nose. Even amid the stench of sweat and tear gas, fear and panic, he zeroed in on the distinct smell of the energy weapon like a bloodhound.

He popped the claws on one hand. Risky, being in so tight with so many people, but if he didn't take the weapon out of play then some other jackass would pick it up and start shooting. He swung and sliced the thing clear in two just before the trigger guard and fed the gunman a knee to the liver for his troubles.

As the gunman dropped, Logan saw past him to two more taking aim at the man on the light pole. He turned and yelled to the man over the din of the crowd, "Get down!"

A frown crossed Piotr's metallic features as he listened Logan's opinion at the situation at hand. He really preferred that such language not be used around the small ones but they had much worse things they were taking in at the moment. There was a bright flash and Piotr turned himself inward, holding the broad side of himself over the students as he was not sure of the course. It seemed Logan was. Even going on the offensive first. A bullet sprang through the glass of the car they had leaned against for refuge. The projectile shattered several windows before ricocheting of his skin and into the ground. Thankfully it had missed the children but non of this was okay.

As he turned to look over the crowd once more, defensively standing between the students and danger Piotr realized that bullets were not the only dangers presented here today. Logan was already hard at work pursuing some of the weapons he had mentioned but Piotr was hesitant. Not for fear of combat but for fear of the children's safety. Looking at the car he tried the door handle. Locked it would seem. With little effort he ripped a door from it's hinges and tossed it to the ground where it cluttered out of the way.

"We are moving you to safety." One of the students started to protest, a determined look on his face. "NO debate, Evan. This is no Danger Room lesson." His cold metallic eyes narrowed down at the boy for a moment before he turned to the others. Usually the Russian was known for his gentle and sweat demeanor but this was no time for his pleasantries.

"In car. NOW! Keep low and hold on." Piotr turned to grab onto a protester who was running past them in clear pursuit of a woman just trying to get away. With a 'soft' tap to the top of his head the man fell unconscious and limp to the ground. The final student worked her way into the vehicle and without a moment hesitation Piotr leaned down, sliding a massive arm under it's frame. He lifted it with ease despite it's blatant groans of protest, hoisting it up and onto his shoulder. Trying to keep from being still as long as possible Colossus ran through the crowd. Using his free arm as a plow of sorts he strong armed his way past what crowd there was between himself and the closest alley leading to salvation between two old brick buildings. Another bullet bounced off of his back, causing his brow to curl in frustration as he pushed himself harder.

"Out. Quickly please." As soon as they reached the mouth of the alley Piotr let the car down heavily and allowed the students to exit. They had just barely started to unload when an energy blast hit Piotr square in the back. Tearing through his civilian clothing down to his steel skin leaving only a smoking mark where it had been. Growling in anger Piotr whipped around to face the man that had seemed to be working the edge of the riot. One hand grabbed his weapon while the other caught the man at his throat. Lifting them both into the air Piotr held the gun up before the man, applying pressure and crushing the metal in a sickening snap leaving several pieces to fall to the ground. The man's eyes went wide with fear. The Russian turned back to look at the students who has stopped to look at his aggression, a sight unseen to some of them before now.

"Now!" The Russian proclaimed as he slowly let the man back down to his feet. A light jab to the chest from the hand that held his neck was all it took to dispatch the man back into a parked van causing a dent in the vehicle and the man to fall limp to the ground. Once the students were done unloading Piotr lifted the vehicle once more. This time he wedged it, hard, between the two buildings making an impromptu barricade between the children and the riots.

'Protect each other." Piotr called over the vehicle. "I will..." A face in the crowd caught the man's eyes. A sinister face that he had become all to familiar with over the years. 'Be right...back..." His voice trailed off as his eyes narrowed on the master of magnetism.

How had Xavier’s goody-two-shoe influence worked so easily upon Logan. Erik had never been invested in the life of the famous Wolverine. A bonding experience had just never happened for them. Perhaps it was the fact that Erik could easily reach into the man’s body and rip his metal covered bones from him flesh, or they had conflicting personalities. Either way, the amount of trouble the gruff man went through to help do the “right” thing was astonishing. Erik could only assume it was Xavier’s influence. Be good. Help others. Show people mutants weren’t something to be scared of. He could see the mutant through the sea of chaos that separated them. Violence rode the crowd like a wave ebbing back and forth, pushing, shoving, and some times even guns made the crowd move in every direction and brought them clashing back together again elsewhere.

Logan and another man, with a giant metal arm, that he had seen at the party stood by a lamp post as they tried to figure out where some violence was coming from. That was fine. That meant they hadn’t noticed Erick, and that they were not about to start trouble for him. Moving farther away, Erik examined the building he’d come to the sidewalk for. The large structed towered over everyone, providing an ample shadow for the riots to take place in below.

A sense of giddiness spread through his gut, suppressed by his well-controlled face and body language. Acting excited wasn’t something a dignified man such as himself would do, but the rush he felt before pulling off a job… It’d been something he missed in old age, but he had the chance at life again. The chance to do more and to make even more of a difference. Reaching for his ever present power, he slammed it into 8 Spruce street. Metal groaned as it contorted itself into the shape he wanted. Important weightbearing beams weakened, but the sound of the complaining steel was drowned out by the screams and yells of the riot.

The glint of metal moving through the crowd caught Erik’s eye. Taking a break from working the metal of the building, he found the source of the glint. Piotr had come closer, like a mother hen he was herding students of Xavier’s to safety. Or maybe they were just random youths the man had found on the street. What he knew about the metal giant was he had a kind and protective disposition. Erik would have let them continue, but they made eye contact through the shuffling crowd. An idea struck him in that moment, and a smile slithered across Erik’s features. ”Run” The mouthed word was said as a taunt as he slammed him power into Piotr and took control of his metal being.

Like a child playing with a ragdoll, Erik swung Piotr around the crowd, setting him up in the perfect position to live out his plan. The power that grasped Piotr was grasped in one hand, as the other hand moved back to fiddle with 8 Spruce street’s skeleton again. It was ready. Like a tree that had been cut half way through, it just needed a good shove to gain that momentum that would send it forward, and Erik had the perfect battering ram. Turning his eyes on Piotr he made contact with the metal giant once more. ”Timber.”

As fast as he could make his power move, Erik rammed Piotr into the building. Everything seemed to slow down in that second, the sound around him seemed to disappear except for a large anguished groan coming from the large building. He waited with baited breath for the moment, and then time caught up and the building tumbled. It tumbled ontop of the rioters, and most importantly it tumbled right on top of the Manhattan Municipal building.

Look out below! Certain individuals have caused a skyscraper to fall on top of the Manhattan Municipal building, as well as on the other attendees. This results in the riot becoming a rescue and evacuation effort. You may have your characters injured or trapped by the building, or they can have dodged it. The choices is yours.
